This article is part of our CloudSuite Industrial Feature Focus series.
Each post highlights a specific feature within Infor CloudSuite Industrial (CSI). In this one, we’re diving into ERP-Integrated Configuration.
You’ll get a clear explanation of how it works and expert insight from Visual South’s Nick Mendolia. Nick has implemented ERP for real manufacturers and knows what the documentation doesn’t tell you.
Here’s what we’re focusing on today:
- Feature: ERP-Integrated Configuration
- Module: CPQ Enterprise Configurator
- Product: Infor CloudSuite Industrial (CSI)
ERP-Integrated Configuration Overview
ERP-integrated configuration in Infor CloudSuite Industrial (CSI) means that the CPQ Enterprise Configurator is not a bolt-on tool—it’s deeply embedded within the quoting, ordering, and production workflows. Configuration logic drives every step, from product selection to the generation of sales orders, bills of material, and routings.
This tight integration ensures that what gets quoted is exactly what gets built. Configured products flow seamlessly into the ERP’s manufacturing processes, without the need for manual intervention or rework. All configuration data is stored in CSI and used to drive planning, purchasing, and production.
It also supports consistency across departments. Sales uses the same configuration engine as engineering and production, ensuring alignment across the entire order lifecycle.
Expert's Take on ERP-Integrated Configuration
Nick Mendolia emphasizes that integration is what makes CSI’s configuration capabilities so powerful. Instead of using an external tool that just passes a file or PDF to the ERP, CSI treats configuration as a core part of the process.
"You’re not handing off a spec sheet and hoping someone keys it in correctly. The configuration drives the order—it becomes the order."
Nick explains that this eliminates errors and speeds up production. There’s no need to manually create BOMs or routings—CSI generates them based on the configuration rules and parameters.
He also notes that this integration ensures long-term consistency and traceability. If a configured order needs to be repeated or modified later, everything is in the system—not just in someone’s memory or inbox.
"It’s one system, one version of the truth. Sales, engineering, and production are all working from the same source."
