This article is part of our CloudSuite Industrial Feature Focus series.
Each post highlights a specific feature within Infor CloudSuite Industrial (CSI). In this one, we’re diving into Product Modeling And Rulesets.
You’ll get a clear explanation of how it works and expert insight from Visual South’s Nick Mendolia. Nick has implemented ERP for real manufacturers and knows what the documentation doesn’t tell you.
Here’s what we’re focusing on today:
Infor CloudSuite Industrial (CSI) integrates with the Infor CPQ Enterprise Configurator to enable complex product modeling through configurable rulesets. This tool allows manufacturers to define all the logic and constraints around how products can be built—from simple variants to highly engineered-to-order assemblies.
The product modeling environment uses a rules-based engine to define allowable options, valid combinations, dependencies, and constraints. This ensures that only buildable and orderable configurations are created during the quoting and order process.
By centralizing product logic in the CPQ Enterprise Configurator, companies reduce errors, eliminate manual validations, and streamline how sales, engineering, and manufacturing teams collaborate on custom products.
Nick Mendolia explains that one of the biggest values of CSI’s configurator is the ability to manage complex rules and logic in a centralized, scalable way.
"You can capture everything from 'if this, then that' logic, to dependencies between selections, to constraints based on engineering rules. All in one model."
He points out that in many manufacturers, this logic lives in tribal knowledge or spreadsheets. With CSI and CPQ, it gets formalized—and becomes reusable across quoting, ordering, and production.
The rulesets not only guide users through building valid configurations, but they also reduce back-and-forth between sales and engineering. That speeds up the sales cycle and reduces costly errors on the shop floor.
"Instead of re-engineering the wheel every time, you build it once in the configurator—and just maintain the logic over time."
