This article is part of our CloudSuite Industrial Feature Focus series.
Each post highlights a specific feature within Infor CloudSuite Industrial (CSI). In this one, we’re diving into Data Lake For Real-Time Data.
You’ll get a clear explanation of how it works and expert insight from Visual South’s Nick Mendolia. Nick has implemented ERP for real manufacturers and knows what the documentation doesn’t tell you.
Here’s what we’re focusing on today:
- Feature: Data Lake For Real-Time Data
- Module: Infor OS
- Product: Infor CloudSuite Industrial (CSI)
Data Lake For Real-Time Data Overview
Infor CloudSuite Industrial (CSI) integrates with the Infor Data Lake to structure and publish ERP data for downstream use. As part of the Infor OS platform, the Data Lake acts as a centralized repository where CSI sends standardized business objects—like customers, orders, inventory, and more—based on real-time system activity.
This allows other systems, such as business intelligence tools, data warehouses, or external applications, to consume ERP data in a clean and consistent format. The focus is not on dashboards within CSI, but rather on creating a pipeline of business-ready data that reflects what’s happening in the ERP in near real-time.
The structured nature of the data makes it easier to develop custom reporting, integrations, and analytics across the enterprise, without needing complex database queries or manual data exports.
Expert's Take on Data Lake For Real-Time Data
Nick Mendolia explains that CSI doesn’t just dump raw tables into a repository—it publishes structured business objects to the Infor Data Lake using ION. This creates a normalized layer of ERP data that’s ready for other systems to consume.
"You're not pulling data from CSI tables. You're pulling structured objects—like a sales order object, or an item object—that are already mapped and modeled."
Nick emphasizes that this structured approach supports clean integration with external tools. Whether building a data warehouse, connecting a BI platform, or feeding a custom app, companies get ERP data that’s well-organized and up to date.
He also points out that this happens continuously behind the scenes, making data available quickly without disrupting live ERP operations.
"You’re feeding real CSI activity into a usable data stream, but it’s decoupled from your transactional system."
