This article is part of our CloudSuite Industrial Feature Focus series.
Each post highlights a specific feature within Infor CloudSuite Industrial (CSI). In this one, we’re looking at the Application Event System (AES), CSI’s built-in workflow engine for automating business processes and enforcing rules.
Here’s what we’re focusing on today:
- Feature: Application Event System (AES)
- Framework: Mongoose
- Product: Infor CloudSuite Industrial ERP
Application Event System Overview
The Application Event System (AES) in CSI lets you build rule-driven workflows without writing code. It supports IF/THEN/ELSE logic to trigger alerts, suspend records, automate updates, or launch approvals based on system activity. AES is deeply embedded in the Mongoose framework, so it works across all CSI modules and forms.
Common use cases include approvals for customer credit changes, purchase orders, or quality hold releases. Events can send notifications, enforce conditional logic, or trigger web service calls using input/output parameters. CSI includes many prebuilt AES events that are disabled by default and can be activated as needed, especially within the Quality module.
This feature ensures business processes are enforced automatically, with full traceability and audit history, without relying on external workflow tools.
Expert’s Take on Application Event System
Nick Mendolia, Director of Client Solutions at Visual South, describes AES this way:
“Think of it like IF/THEN/ELSE logic. If something happens, then do something else. It’s how we build workflows in CSI.”
Nick gives a common use case: customer credit limit changes. “If someone tries to increase a customer’s credit limit, AES can suspend the record, notify the right approver, and wait for a response before releasing the change,” he explains.
These workflows can trigger emails or system alerts, and the approver can respond directly within CSI or via email. “And it’s not just for finance,” Nick adds. “A lot of events are ready to go in the Quality module—just turn them on and they notify the right people when something changes.”
While some AES workflows are simple enough for non-technical users to configure, others are more advanced and may require help from a developer or experienced implementer.
