This article is part of our CloudSuite Industrial Feature Focus series.
Each post highlights a specific feature within Infor CloudSuite Industrial (CSI). In this one, we’re spotlighting Field Service Inventory Optimization, sometimes referred to as Item Stock as well, a powerful tool to manage and track inventory kept on service trucks or in remote field locations.
Here’s what we’re focusing on today:
- Feature: Field Service Inventory Optimization (Item Stock)
- Module: Service Management
- Product: Infor CloudSuite Industrial ERP
Field Service Inventory Optimization Overview
CSI’s Item Stock functionality provides visibility and control over inventory held by field service technicians, whether that inventory is stored on a truck, in a remote warehouse, or assigned directly to a technician. Each truck can be configured as its own warehouse location, making it part of the overall ERP-managed supply chain.
This setup allows CSI to plan for replenishment automatically. As parts are consumed in the field, replenishment orders can be triggered to restock truck inventory, ensuring technicians always have what they need on hand. Because these stock levels are tied to CSI’s standard item and warehouse data structures, the inventory can be tracked, costed, and reported on just like any other warehouse location in the system.
This visibility improves service response times, reduces unplanned trips back to central stockrooms, and ensures higher first-time fix rates for service calls.
Expert’s Take: Nick Mendolia on Truck Stock Management
Nick Mendolia, Director of Client Solutions at Visual South, explains how this feature is typically used in real-world CSI implementations:
“When field service technicians carry inventory on their trucks, we can set that truck up as its own warehouse in CSI. That way, the technician can see what they have on hand, and the ERP can plan to replenish it automatically.”
This approach improves autonomy in the field. “The technician doesn’t have to call someone or guess what they have—they can check their truck stock in real time,” Nick adds. “And when they use an item, it’s deducted from their inventory and visible in the system right away.”
It’s a seamless extension of the core ERP inventory logic, applied to the realities of mobile service operations.
