Non-conformance tracking

This article is part of our CloudSuite Industrial Feature Focus series.

Each post highlights a specific feature within Infor CloudSuite Industrial (CSI). In this one, we’re focusing on Non-conformance Tracking, a foundational function in CSI’s Quality module that helps manufacturers manage quality failures and turn them into corrective actions.

Here’s what we’re focusing on today:

  • Feature: Non-conformance Tracking
  • Module: Quality Management
  • Product: Infor CloudSuite Industrial ERP

Non-conformance Tracking Overview

CSI tracks non-conformances using a workflow that begins with a Material Review Report (MRR). When a part fails inspection, whether it's incoming, in-process, or returned from a customer, the system generates an MRR to record the issue. That record can then trigger a Corrective Action Report (CAR), an RMA, or other disposition workflows.

The Quality module also places non-conforming inventory into a designated QC hold location so it can’t be used in production or shipped accidentally. From there, users determine whether to scrap, rework, credit, or approve the part for use after review.

Non-conformance records are linked to suppliers, jobs, work centers, and specific serial or lot numbers, ensuring traceability. CSI also tracks the cost of quality for each incident using custom-defined categories like rework, redesign, and inspection time.

Expert’s Take on Non-conformance Tracking

Nick Mendolia, Director of Client Solutions at Visual South, describes how CSI’s non-conformance system works in practice:

“You can generate Material Reviews and automatically create Corrective Action Reports from those reviews—and ultimately turn them into RMAs if required.”

Nick explains that as soon as a part is marked non-conforming, CSI takes action. “The system places those items into a hold location. They’re unavailable for production until they’re dispositioned.”

That disposition process is fully integrated. “You choose whether to use the parts, rework them, scrap them, or offer a credit. And that decision is captured in the quality records,” he adds.
